We decided that our annual sales and marketing conference could use some changes, freshen it up, look at ways to make it more valuable to those who we are leading and serving. It struck me as funny when one of the leadership team suggested that in order to best update, we should ask the teams what they would like to see. Funny only because it should have been obvious that this was the right thing to do. We have done the interviews and I can honestly say that the ideas and things we are working on now would not have come up had we not interviewed. Sometimes you just have to think about the obvious for a few minutes.
A quality leader has the ability to align people in the job, to maximize the individual's success and then by extension the group's success. In order to lead like this, you need to know your people and understand more than just their resume. Here is a question you can ask yourself, "Do I know one non-work related thing about each of my team?" -- I am personally working on this challenge. Start with your direct reports and just take a moment and write it down.

I had the great pleasure of attending the Bryan Williams Leadership Academy ( bwleadershipacademy.com ) in Phoenix and I wanted to share with my friends and contacts what a great experience it was. Bryan is dedicated to delivering great content and a first rate event. The academy class included men and women at various stages in their career and from a range of industries. But the material and the discussions were relevant to everyone. I am already using concepts we discussed.

I listened to an episode of the Cash Flow Diary podcast by J. Massey. In the
podcast he asked, “Do you want to become a PRO at what you do?” He said that if you want to be a PRO you have to do three things.
You must Practice, practice makes a habit & practice makes you better. You must be Responsible and take ownership of your situation. If you want your life to change, then you must change things in your life. You have to be Optimistic and see what you want to be.
If I want to become proficient, then I need to Practice, take Responsibility and be Optimistic. Are you ready to be a PRO?
